Janeen Smith, USA
Janeen Smith began her career as a blaster for one of the large surface coal operations in Gillette, Wyoming. She was responsible for aspects of blasting operations including the use and evaluation of the pioneer high density blasting agents used in the western United States. Her next area of “hands on” experience came as a blaster and supervisor for construction blasting companies in the Denver, Colorado area. This added small diameter and close in blasting techniques to her skill set over the next several years.
She then took a position with the State of Colorado Division of Labor and Employment which expanded her knowledge of explosive regulatory compliance. Janeen conducted inspections, investigated blasting complaints/damage and oversaw the rewrite of the state regulations. Her position also involved assisting local, state and federal law enforcement agents in cases dealing with the criminal possession of explosives materials. She was elected to the ISEE Board of Directors in 2014. Janeen has served on the Executive Committee as the Secretary, the Treasurer and is currently the Vice President of Technical. Janeen currently consults and teaches via her company, J. Smith & Associates LLC. Her focus includes explosive training, regulatory compliance consulting and electronic inventory system development.
Jacob Uittenboogaard, The Netherlands
Jacob Uittenboogaard is 40 years old and graduated 21 years ago as an explosives engineer specializing in tall structures, underwater demolition and industrial cleaning with explosives. As a little boy he was always by his father’s side, (who also was an explosives engineer) when he was busy with a demolition job and then came in contact with explosives and knew this was what he wanted to do… controlling one of the biggest forces on the planet.
After working for about 2 years with his father he has worked for several renowned demolition companies and for 5 years now has been self employed in all types of demolition works specialized in explosive demolition. The latest and one of the biggest jobs was the controlled demolition of a former phosphorus plant and several adjacent buildings and foundations executed from August 2019 till August 2020. As a member of the Dutch Society of Explosives Engineers (NVvS in Dutch) and as examiner of the Dutch course for explosives engineer he is closely involved in many of the things going on with explosives in the Netherlands. Jacob is very proud and grateful to be part of the technical committee for the EFEE Conference in Maastricht 2021.
